Cold sending emails can be useful if the job you’re looking for isn’t listed on a company’s website. Resume.io describes a cold email as “a speculative demand for the job you desire, even if it hasn’t been advertised or may not exist.” You can think of it as a form of networking, which is already a reliable method to advance your career.
“It’s actually networking on your terms, which is a distinct advantage to meeting someone at a crowded conference,” says Resume.io. “When you send a cold, well-composed email, you have nothing to lose – and so much to gain. The cold email job application is the start of a conversation that can run and go, even if it doesn’t immediately end in a job.
So what’s the best way to go about it? This infographic describes eight components of an effective cold email. The first is to make sure you’re sending your email to the right person. It may sound simple, but it still requires some solid research.
You can find the company’s LinkedIn page and see all of its employees who have their own profiles. From there, you can determine who might be the best person to contact.
Other tips include neatly creating an email subject line, a brief introduction to yourself, and finally a conclusion with a question.
